Ridevert

Ridevert is an ad-tech app startup based in Washington DC that I founded that pays bicycle commuters for every mile they ride their with an advertizer’s ad banner on the side of their bike.

Ridevert is an early stage startup that looks to incentivize more would-be bike commuters to use their bikes more by paying them per mile they ride with lightweight ads on the side. Ridevert is also looking to provide bike couriers for food delivery apps a 2nd stream of income.

To prove the viability of the idea and business model, we had 3 critical tests to carry out. We had to test the assumption that bike commuters will be willing to put bike banners on their bikes for extra income, we had to test to make sure that advertizers would see the value in advertizing with us and finally we had to test to make sure that the banners don’t get in the way of the riders while they are riding their bikes.

To test out my assumption, I created a landing page about that explains the idea to prospective customers and I ran Facebook ads for the landing page to see how much interest it would attract. I A-B tested a number of keywords and once I got the conversion rate I had previously set in the benchmarks, I emailed respondents to set up interviews to gauge what they are looking for from such a service.

We interviewed prospective adverstisers to test our value proposition as a novel means of outdoor advertizing. After several interview with target advertizers, they unanimously wanted a way to track the impressions they get from the ads so we built a dashboard for advertizers to monitor the impressions.

We did this using a complex algorithm that takes into consideration the cell reception of individual mobile phones with in a 25 foot radius of the bike at any point in time.

And finally we carried out a test with the first iteration of banner prototypes with the help of bike delivery professionals in the city. We tested the weight of the banners while they rode the bikes, we tested the ergonomics of the banner to make sure the banners don’t impede the rider. We also tested other features such as modularity, waterproofing etc.
